To have and to hold
collage (paper and dried fish skin) on watercolour paper
Dale Copeland

The fears of ownership.
Here an old engraving of a man in Bedlam is surrounded by land deeds and buildings.
And forming a dangerous-looking cloud over his head is a piece of dried stingray, with spines like thought bubbles.
On the land deed are the words TO HAVE AND TO HOLD, which surprised me as I thought they belonged to the marriage ceremony.
Another form of ownership? Scary.
